Tomb Raider PUZZLE RESEARCH

As a continuation to my year 2 Tomb Raider puzzle project, I created a competitor analysis of all Tomb Raider reboot games as well as designed a few puzzles that follow the learnings from the research. This was a part of my year 4 self-study project.

quake map

Hell Gate is a Quake map created using Trenchbroom as a self-study project during my time as a year 2 level design teaching assistant.

my goals

  • Design and implement environmental challenges, enemy encounters, scripted events, and sequences with the tools provided by the modding community and Trenchbroom

  • Gather references for the architecture and the theme of the level based on real-life castles and fictional settings

  • Sketch, white-box, and set-dress the level

Shred off

Shred Off is a third-person action-sport shooter game where the player snowboards down Alaskan mountains and guns down gangs of enemies while doing stylish tricks. The game is available on Steam. I worked on the project while in the year 3 at BUas.

my responsibilities

  • Created the design and white-box block-out for the onboarding and the Subzero Slaughterlevel

  • Created modular tools for blocking out level

  • Set-dressed onboarding and Subzero Slaughter level

  • Created the design for the boost pads

  • In collaboration with a programmer created a tutorial level

Echoes of Silence

Echoes of Silence is a third-person narrative-driven game with simple puzzles and platforming added to the mix. The project focused on creating the proof of concept for a game following a brief provided by the teaching staff at BUas.

  • Created modular kit block-out for MVP area

  • Helped to set-dress the MVP area

  • Added mission flow into the level using the tool provided by programmers

  • Worked with systems and narrative designers to achieve the intended gameplay experience

  • In collaboration with a programmer created level events such as breaking and flickering lights

Clock of Death is a custom map created with Trenchbroom for Quake. The project was part of the year 2 assignment at BUas.

  • Design and implement environmental challenges, enemy encounters, scripted events, and sequences with the tools provided by the modding community and Trenchbroom

  • Research Quake player experience, level structure, and design logic

  • Gather references for the architecture and the theme of the level based on real-life castles and fictional settings

  • Sketch, white-box, and set-dress the level

  • Perform quality assurance through Conditions of Satisfaction, playtesting, and iterating the level

Tomb Raider inspired puzzle kit

This project draws inspiration from Shadow of the Tomb Raider and tries replicating the puzzle elements found in selected puzzles. It was part of a year 2 assignment at BUas.
