introduction

From time to time, I like to challenge myself and take part in a game jam. I'm quite new to game jams and have shied away from game jams due to the time crunch of those events. However, I have found myself to be fond of 2D game jams since 2D games are a lot simpler to make than 3D games. With those small experiences, I get closer to overcoming my fear of game jams. And one day, I will be able to join a big game jam and meet lots of cool people in the process.

 Vain (2D Game Jam'24) 

Vain ('Meadow' in Estonian) is a 2D platformer game made as a submission to Spring 2D Jam '24. This is a solo project and due to this limitation, the game was created using 3D assets, an orthographic camera, and a post-processing shader to achieve the 2D look. Due to some inconveniences, around 11 hours were spent on the project.

THEME

There is a unique beauty in combining great arts and nature in a digital medium such as games. The song that the game is inspired by is a perfect portrayal of an early spring morning in the Estonian countryside. The project tries to capture the culture and nature of Estonia and combine them to create something unique yet simple.
